What Is Prakruti

Prakruti is body pattern. Every human is unique on this earth. Everyone’s body Pattern, habbits and thinking style is unique. But to understand everybody from medicinal point of view, Ayurveds categorised body patterns based on body shapes, food habits, sleep pattern, activities, and some other parameters. These body patterns are known as ‘Prakruti’. In defining prakruti, the dosha which is most influential in the body is focused and ‘Prakruti’ is named after it.

Prakruti decided in Womb

Yes, prakruti is decided at the time of fertilization of egg. The dosha which is dominant at the time of fertilization decides the prakruti states ‘Sushrata Samhita’.

Prakruti is ‘’Janmamarantaral-Bhawni’’ means Prakruti remains constant throughout life, right from gestational age till death. The body constitution remains the same besided change in routine, food habbit lifestyle and stages of life.

Types of Prakruti

Maharshi Charak in charak samitha has given seven types of prakruti based on Vata, Pitta and Kapha dosha dominance.

In some body patterns one out of the three dosha is dominant. The prakruti is ‘Ek Doshaja’ prakruti. Single dosha prakruti.

Among others some people show the dominance of two doshas like Vata-Pitta, Pitta-Kapha and shows characteristic of two dosha, known to have ‘Dwi-Doshaja’ Prakruti.

The last and ideal prakruti is having body pattern which have all the three doshas equally balanced. The prakruti is ‘Sama Prakruti’

Kapha Prakruti: –

Following are the typical characteristics of kapha prakruti

  • Skin Colour – Fair
  • Slow Movements
  • Soft Spoken
  • Healthy Body
  • Stable Mind
  • Shiny Strong Hair
  • Shiny Nails
  • Good Strength
  • Long Life
  • Even & Strong Teeth
  • Less Hunger Eat Less Food
  • Less Thirst Drink Less Water
  • Good Stamina

Pitta Prakruti: –

Pitta Prakruti has following characteristics

  • Body Colour- Fair and Yellow
  • Excessive Moles on Skin
  • Excess Hunger- Eat a Lot
  • Excess Thirst- Drink More Water
  • Average Shaped- Medium Shaped Body
  • More Prone to graying of hairs and hair fall
  • More quantity of urine and ficus
  • Aggressive in Nature
  • Less Stamina
  • Medium Strength

Vata Prakruti: –

Characteristics of Vata Prakruti are as follows

  • Skin Colour – Dark & Dry Skin
  • Body Shape- Short
  • Hyperactivity
  • Unstable mind
  • Less Hunger-Eat Less Food
  • Less Thirst- Drink Less Water
  • Thin Body
  • Small and Dry Nails
  • Uneven Teeth
  • Dry and Rough Hairs
  • Over Talkative

Dwidoshaja Prakruti: –

Prakruti with dominance of any two doshas is known as Dwidoshaja Prakruti. Characteristics of Dwidoshaja Prakruti are the combo of two the two Dosha involved

Sama Prakruti: –

Is the most health body pattern shows equal dominance of Tridosha and characteristics of Vata Pitta and Kapha Prakruti.

 

Importance of Prakruti

Ayurveda strongly believe that in diagnosing any disease it is not sufficient to understand signs and symbols of disease, but physician should also be aware of the body pattern of the patient- the prakruti of the patient. This understanding helps to define treatments, defining diet plan and juding prognosis of the disease.

  • Understing Prakruti helps an individual to understand strength and lacunas of the body. This gives better sense to decide lifestyle.
  • As per dominance of dosha in Prakruti proper diet habbits can be adopted.
  • Prakruti Identification is crucial in Ayurveda lifestyle management.
