Now a day’s health has become an asset. We try to preserve this asset by taking healthy food, following healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly and taking some nutritional supplements.

Ayurveda has a logical answer for this question Maharshi Charak in his book ‘Charak Samhita’ states that Nidra means Sleep is the reason of your health status. The complete and sound sleep keeps you healthy, where as insufficient sleep can give diseases. Insufficient sleep can lead to death as well.

Not only about diet and exercise but we should also think about ‘Sleep’ when it becomes to health.

In Ayurveda, Vata, Pitta and Kapha dosha are the three pillers of health. Balance of all the Tridosha keeps one healthy. Balance of these three doshas is dependant on three sub pillers namely Ahar-Diet, Nidra-Sleep and Brahmacharya-continence.

Ayurveda has given utmost importance to sleep. As per Charak Samiths complete sleep gives you happiness, nourishment, strength, vitality, knowledge and life. Vice versa incomplete or over sleed gives misery, emaciation, weakness, sterility, ignorance and death.

Routine Errors in the Sleep

Many people use to take improper sleep. The sleep pattern varies person to person. Following sleep patterns are unhealthy as they creates irregularity in the body physiology

Anidra

No sleep. Some people doing night shifts or security personnels avoid sleeping at night. This may lead to anxiety or hyperacidity like digestive disorders.

Atinidra

 Ati is excess, nidra is sleep. Sleeping for long hours in morning or day time sleep even after satisfactory night sleep is Atinidra. Many a times atinidra become reason behind lifestyle, disorders like diabetes, dysliprdemia obesity etc.

Alpanidra

Alpa is less and alpanidra means sleeping for less hours than expected. Now a days after entry of social media in human life, Alpandira has become a hobbit. This less than normal sleep has become reason of Anxiety and depression. Lack of sleep or less sleep gives irritability to the person

Healthy sleep pattern is known as ‘Samyak Nidra’ means ideal sleep

Tips for Sound sleep

  • The place where you sleep should be neat and clean
  • The place should be free from noises, bad odors and insects
  • Bed should be even surface
  • Pull over should be as per seasonal conditions
  • Dinner should be less hot and spicy
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages prior to sleep
  • Avoid smoking prior to sleep
  • Doing meditation for 5 to 10 minutes prior to sleep is advisable for sound sleep
  • Excretion of urine and ficus prior makes you sleep calm and sound
  • Dinner should be light
  • Never sleep empty stomach
  • Avoid use of mobile and laptops just prior to sleep
  • Bath before sleep is useful to get better relaxation
